HOW WE PRESCRIBE
Prescribing policy
What you can expect from us when a medication is part of your care.
Decisions come after an evaluation
We prescribe only after one of our clinicians has evaluated you. We don't prescribe on a first call, by message or for someone we haven't seen.
Every medication has risks
Your prescriber explains the options, what each is known to do, its side effects and its risks, and what is not known. Results vary from person to person. You decide with us, and you can take time or say no.
Follow-ups and refills
Refills are handled at follow-up visits. Ask before you run low, because we may need to see you first. A written plan after each visit says what to take, what to watch for and who to call.
Labs and monitoring
Some medications call for blood tests or other monitoring. Your prescriber tells you which, why and how often before you start.
Controlled medications
Some medications are controlled substances. Whether we prescribe one depends on your evaluation, your clinician's judgment and state and federal law. Our policy is not to prescribe a controlled medication at a first visit by video.
Video visits
Follow-up visits can be by video for people located in states where we are licensed, which today is California. A first visit is in person.
Changing or stopping
Please don't stop or change a medication on your own. Some need to be reduced slowly, so call the office and we will make a plan with you.
Pharmacies
We send prescriptions to the pharmacy you choose.
If you are in crisis
This office is not an emergency service. Call or text 988 any time, or call 911 in an emergency.
Questions about prescribing?
Ask the office. We are glad to explain how it works before you book.
